A webinar by Dr. Federica Ribaldi, University of Geneva

Dementia prevention is a critical public health challenge, with major consequences for quality of life, caregivers, and healthcare systems. The World Health Organization has identified risk reduction as a global priority, yet standardized and scalable procedures to implement dementia prevention in routine care remain limited.

The Geneva Memory Center of Geneva University Hospitals has developed and implemented an integrated, multi-level action plan to promote cognitive health across the continuum of prevention.

The first component, the memory workshop for dementia prevention (“Atelier mémoire de prévention”), represents a primary prevention initiative. It provides education, social engagement, and cognitive stimulation to the general population, increases awareness of modifiable risk factors, and empowers individuals to adopt brain-healthy lifestyles.

The second component, the Brain Health Service for the prevention of dementia (dBHS), addresses secondary prevention. It offers structured dementia risk assessment, individualized risk communication, and personalized multidomain risk-reduction plans for cognitively unimpaired individuals at increased risk of cognitive decline. This model integrates genetic, biological and lifestyle information to support precision prevention.

In this talk, will present the rationale, structure, and implementation of these two complementary initiatives, highlighting challenges and lessons learned. She proposes that this integrated model, combining community-based primary prevention and structured secondary prevention services, can serve as a scalable framework for broader adoption in Switzerland and other European countries to address the growing burden of dementia.

The webinar is hosted by (Inselspital Bern) and offers a platform for shared learning and discussion, enabling participants to exchange insights and experiences.
