Targeting of astrocyte metabolism for Alzheimer's disease treatment

Website Event Cover #3 (2)

A Webinar by Prof. Jean-Yves Chatton, University of Lausanne

In spite of decades of research, no truly efficacious treatment can be offered to the vast majority of Alzheimer's disease patients. Innovative therapeutic strategies are urgently needed to combat the progression and societal impact of this devastating neurodegenerative condition. This conclusion prompted team to explore the astrocytic angle of treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

He will begin by outlining fundamental aspects of neuron-astrocyte metabolic interactions and their relevance to brain homeostasis. The talk will then highlight promising experimental results from strategies that selectively target mitochondrial function within astrocytes. This emerging avenue may offer a blueprint for new pharmacological interventions, not only for Alzheimer's disease but also for other neurodegenerative disorders characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction and reactive astrogliosis.
