The Department of Dementia Disorders, headed by Prof. Marc Aurel Busche, is a nationally and internationally recognized center for cognitive disorders and dementia. Clinically, it comprises the Memory Clinic as well as inpatient and outpatient geriatric psychiatry services. The department is closely integrated with the Department of Biomedicine (Research Group “Brain Ageing and Neurodegeneration”) and the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Basel, ensuring strong links to academic teaching and research. International collaborations include partnerships with institutions such as the UK Dementia Research Institute.
Patients benefit from state-of-the-art early diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, covering the full spectrum from mild cognitive impairment to advanced dementia. The department operates in an interdisciplinary and interprofessional setting, collaborating closely with geriatrics, neurology, and rehabilitation services.
This position offers the opportunity to directly combine clinical practice with innovative dementia research (e.g., EEG/MEG, sleep research, neurophysiology, cognition and biomarkers, as well as experimental and clinical studies). The role provides a diverse and responsible range of tasks within a dynamic, university-affiliated environment, where cutting-edge research and high-level patient care go hand in hand.
Key responsibilities
- Supervision of residents in the assessment and management of Memory Clinic patients
- Independent assessment and clinical management of own patients within the Memory Clinic
- Performance of lumbar punctures
- Participation in weekly interdisciplinary case conferences with specialists in geriatric psychiatry/psychiatry, neurology, neuropsychology, and neuroradiology (including nuclear medicine)
- Contribution to the development and optimization of clinical processes and quality standards, particularly in biomarker-based diagnostics and innovative therapeutic approaches
- Opportunity to participate in clinical and translational research projects with the possibility of academic career development
- Teaching and professional supervision of residents and involvement in undergraduate medical education

Profile
- Board-certified specialist in Neurology
