The Department of Geriatric Psychiatry operates within a highly interdisciplinary and interprofessional framework. Close collaboration with colleagues in geriatrics, neurology, and internal medicine enables the comprehensive treatment of patients with complex somatic comorbidities, minimizing the need for transfers to other hospitals.


The department offers a highly specialized setting for individuals with severe behavioral disturbances in the context of dementia and/or delirium superimposed on dementia. There is close integration with the in-house Memory Clinic, where modern early diagnostic and therapeutic approaches are incorporated into patient care.


The department is embedded in university research structures (e.g., the Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel), providing opportunities for active involvement in clinical and translational research projects within an academic environment.


Key responsibilities

  • Senior physician leadership of an interprofessional inpatient team
  • Regular joint ward rounds in collaboration with geriatrics colleagues
  • Close collaboration with the Memory Clinic, including interdisciplinary case conferences and participation in innovative concepts (e.g., biomarker-based diagnostics and novel therapeutic approaches)
  • Close cooperation with the in-house Delirium Unit
  • Supervision and professional training of residents
  • Consultation-liaison activities within the hospital and in affiliated nursing homes as part of geriatric psychiatric care networks
  • Opportunity to contribute to clinical and translational research projects

Profile

  • Advanced training in psychiatry and psychotherapy or board certification in psychiatry and psychotherapy
  • Experience and/or strong interest in geriatric psychiatry
  • Motivation to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and interprofessional team
  • Interest in innovative models of care and therapeutic concepts
  • Appreciation for the opportunities offered by a university-affiliated environment
  • Desire to combine clinical excellence with scientific curiosity and engagement in clinical and/or translational research
  • Excellent German language skills required; additional languages are an advantage
